The Zou is an indie band with an experimental edge living along side the essential, raw energy of garage, blinking an eye to 70s flavored rock and roll.
The Zou hits with a striking guitar tone (plenty of fuzz and warm overdriven amps) and a very solid rhythm section, a perfect landscape for the aggressive, bluesy vocals (somewhere in between Robert Plant and Jack White).
The band is a solid rock and roll ensemble, but the thing that really places them apart from the crowd is the fact that the bands have got 2 keyboardists in the line up, and this helps them to achieve a really wide sonic range and explore a lot of possibilities, fueling the band’s experimental attitude.
Sometimes bands that can be defined “experimental” or “art-rock” tend to over-do and risk to become a little tedious while pushing the music too far in search for new solutions, but this is definitely not the case.
The Zou manages the hard task to combine the grit and urgency of rock and roll to a clever musicianship that makes the mix even more fresh and exciting.
